China Day 8

This morning, I had planned to talk to my parents, but wechat and snapchat were being booty, so I couldn’t video call them. I ended up going to see a cheer completion with Korey and Olivia. Her roommate was competing, so we were there for support. If we’re being completely honest, the dancing was not that great. The three of us discussed this and said it might just be lack of resources. Also, the teams are recreational—organized by the students—so they probably don’t have a proper coach. It was still fun to watch none the less.

Olivia’s roommate is great because she threw all her stuff at Korey and then told him to take her picture. He kind of just responded with “uh, with what hands?” And when we were walking back to the dorms, she said she was too tired from dancing and made him hold her jacket. I told Katey this, and she said that it’s probs because she’s trying to make him her 男朋友.

When we got back to the dorms, Phil was giving us our new phones, which are pretty snazzy. It’s weird having to get used to a none iPhone. There was no home button, so I kind of just hoped for the best and swiped up from the bottom. Surprisingly that worked. My next mission was changing the phone’s language into English, because there’s too much important stuff on that phone for me to yolo it. It wasn’t that hard once I actually realized where the language menu was.

So now, I can wechat people without wifi which is the best thing. The downside is that you can’t use wechat on two phones at the same time, so if people send me photos while using the program phone, it’s very tedious to get them onto my phone. We obliviously can’t keep the program phones, so any pictures on it have to get to my phone. The problem is, that wechat won’t update itself when you switch to another device. So, in order to get my pictures, I have to send them to someone, log out of the program phone, and then have them resend them to me when I’m logged into my iPhone. I’m sure there’s a better way; I just don’t know it.

But, since I have a program phone with wechat, I gave calling my parents another shot and it worked! We talked for about an hour and 15 minutes.

Afterward, I went to lay down for a while, and then at 1:00, my roommate and I went to get lunch together. It was chicken mixed with rice and an orange soda. 10/10 would recommend.

We ended up sitting at a table with an older couple, and I heard them say “let go” so I stood up to let them out, and the guy stopped and said: “wait, not now.” I sat back down and he told me that my manners were great, but I was more or less proud of myself for remembering the Chinese word for manners.

When we finished lunch, we went and walked around a mall and then we to the 超市 to walk around. We ended up buying yogurt and lichi. We also tried to find fengyoujin, but none of the stores had it.

Back at the dorms, I did my laundry and hung out with Katey. I have too many clothes and not enough hangers, and I’m worried my underwear will not dry. I’ll figure it out.

At 7:15, we headed out to KTV, and it was so much fun. People complimented me on my singing, which was super nice. And I actually managed to remember the harmony for all of “Say Something,” so Olivia and I sang a really sick duet.

Of course, we danced to 小苹果. We did some Taylor Swift, Isaac and I did a sick High School Musical duet, and Deanna and Holden killed it with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

Killer day with killer friends.
